The Hydro
Peebles Hydro seems to be well known all over the country! If people know nothing else about Peebles, they know of the Hydro. Built originally in 1881, destroyed by fire in 1905, and rebuilt in two years, the hydro was where one came to take the waters. Now it is a hotel with so many facilities that it isn't necessary to leave the building at all! I love this view of the rooftops through the trees of Kingsmeadows.

I stayed at the Peebles Hydro hotel when I was a young teenager with my parents on a Wallace Arnolds coach tour - it must have been 45-50 years ago!
ReplyDeletePeebles hydro hotel is one of the most wonderful hotel in Edinburgh, whenever we went in Edinburgh we stayed at this hotel. The hotel is large; rooms are warm, comfortable and clean. The food is amazing from the breakfast to the evening meals. The leisure facilities are very well set!! Staff is very helpful and friendly.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment Jane, but actually, Peebles and the Hydro are not IN Edinburgh. They are not even in the same county! We are at least 20 miles south of the city boundary, obviously near to Edinburgh but not part of the city. Anyway I am really glad you found the hotel so good. I have enjoyed swimming there and eating at the bistro, as well as afternoon tea in the lounge.
