Welcome!

This blog is to introduce you to my town - Peebles, in the Scottish Borders - just one photo at a time, with perhaps a little description and maybe some history thrown in. I hope you will find it interesting. The title comes from a historical comment made by someone who preferred Peebles to the great and famous cities. I know how they felt. It's always a pleasure to return here however long you've been away.

If you want to make a comment, ask me a question, or merely just want to say "hello, I've dropped in", you can do that by using the comment section below each entry. (Just click on the word COMMENT and follow instructions. ) I'd love to know what you think of what you see of my town.

I don't have an expensive elaborate camera so the photo quality may not be brilliant, but I'd like to think my pics will please you. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks to Mary H for the lovely designs I used for my background, and thanks too to all of you who have chosen to support my blog by becoming "followers".

an encounter

Haven't written this blog for over a year now but I had to tell you of a chance meeting the other day with a Scottish lady who lives in Perth, Western Australia, back home for a time just now.  We started chatting as we were coming down the stairs from the library.  She and her friend were looking at information boards on the library stairs about William Chambers who donated the building to the town in the 19th century so I told them that my great grandfather had worked for William in Edinburgh, which started our conversation.  Then the lady told me that back in Australia she had read an interesting blog about Peebles, with photos and bits of history in it.  Of course I asked if she remembered its name or who wrote it and suggested Peebles for Pleasure by Evee.  Yes, that was the one, she reckoned!  "Well, that's me!"  I told her!  Small world, eh?

Well obviously I haven't found anyone to take over the blog, and really just do not have the time to continue it myself, so if there are any takers out there you are very welcome to get in touch and offer your services!!!

Take care.,

  1. My friend Kate is from W Au and traveling around visiting family in Scotland right now. I wonder if it was she that you met. I hate that you don't post anymore, but I do understand. I sure did enjoy your photos. My Peebles friend, Syl, isn't able to get out and do that anymore and I miss seeing around your sweet little town.
Waving from small town Louisiana USA. Maybe I'll get to come back to Scotland in 2014.
