Built in 1753 this is Peebles Town House, at the rear of which was the Corn Exchange. Look closely at the Peebles coat of arms on the triangular pediment above the upper middle window. Here there are
two salmon swimming upstream and only one swimming down! Someone got it wrong!
This is referred to as the Poachers' arms. Two salmon going upriver, the poacher caught one (illegally) so only one swims down!
